Our Featured Boomers: Meet “The Krezels”

“Locals Now!” recently interviewed Sophie and Ted Krezel who moved to Holland Mills in Milton in March 2013 for this month’s Featured Boomer column.

The Krezel’s relocated from Wayne, New Jersey via Loveland, Colorado where they lived for five years. Sophie was a former Speech Therapist while Ted owned a Hardware Store. At this time, they are both enjoying retirement in Delaware.

LN:  Where else did you consider before buying in Delaware? What were the most important factors in making your choice?

SK:  We looked in South Jersey. We sought out the availability of suitable, affordable housing in a location near beaches and, of course, low taxes.

LN:  Why did you choose Holland Mills?

TK:  The Neighborhood is near the seashore towns of Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. The builder had a model home available whose design fit our needs—single floor living and we settled last year on March 7.

LN:  What are your plans now that you are “localizing” (loving our casual active lives, now!)

SK:  We have been exploring the roads and towns of Delaware–from the Wilmington to Fenwick.  Ted is busy checking out the local fishing spots.  I have been volunteering with Read Aloud Delaware and have been reading in North Georgetown Elementary School.

LN:  What are your Boomer Hobbies

SK:  I love watercolor painting and have taken a class here.  There are many excellent opportunities to practice and learn new art skills in the area. Ted and I both love gardening so we are learning “how to garden” in Delaware.  It’s different than NJ and Colorado.

LN:  On the Krezels Bucket List?

SK:  To travel and to stay healthy! We plan to travel to Montana to visit our grandchildren and their parents. Then off to Mexico with my brother and family. Later in the year, we are traveling to Poland and Germany to visit the places where our families are came from. And it’s a good thing that we like to drive… there are always the short trips to Washington, DC to visit our daughter and son in law. (By the way, we have the pleasure to say that we have visited all 50 states!)

Editor’s Note from Kathy Sperl-Bell: When Sophie and Ted walked into the Active Adults Realty office last year they said to me, “We just sold our house in Colorado.” After a moment of thought I asked, “Where are you from in New Jersey?” They responded, “We’re from Wayne, NJ.” Right back at them I said, “Wow that is where I went to high school!”
