UPDATE: We’re getting started on recruiting people for our 2016 Boomer Build with Sussex County’s Habitat for Humanity.
At Irish Eyes on August 21, Live-Life-LOCAL 2016 kicked off our recruiting effort for our 2016 Boomer build. Quite a few guests signed-up to volunteer to help a Habitat For Humanity family. Watch the fun here.
Join us on site on Wednesday, September 21 (9am to 3 pm) and empower yourself as you build with friends and neighbors throughout the county. Be a change maker and help Habitat for Humanity realize their vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
This is your opportunity to team with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity to develop skills, build homes, and advocate for decent, affordable housing in our communities.
The most important requirement for a Habitat for Humanity volunteer is a desire to serve. Whether framing a house, putting up walls, or doing finish and painting work, Habitat’s construction crew and site leaders provide all the training and guidance needed for a successful build project. And, your participation boosts Sussex Habitat’s capacity to build more houses and serve more families!
Please consider sharing your gifts and talents on our Boomer Build Day. You don’t need to know how to swing a hammer, use a saw or a drill, you can help serve lunch to the Crew!
Let’s make a huge difference in the life of a Sussex County Habitat Partner Family. If you, or anyone you know can come out on September 21, please email us. And you don’t need to be a resident to participate and meet some really great people!
Did you know that the average Habitat Volunteers in Sussex County are Boomers? Becoming a Boomer Build Construction Volunteer is really simple! Scroll down.
Help make a difference for a Sussex County Habitat for Humanity family.
This year, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity ( SCHFH) plans to serve 41 families through homeownership and home repair opportunities. Once again, we are looking for Boomers who are able to share their gifts and talents at a Build Day for Sussex County’s Habitat for Humanity!
During our 2013 Build Day endeavor, we put together a full crew, and we raised a considerable donation from our group of clients and past clients! This year, we are doing it again with our friends at Sussex County Habitat for Humanity. As the beneficiary of our 2016 Build Day and our annual fundraising effort, we are looking forward to making a huge difference in the life of a Habitat Partner Family. If you or anyone you know can come out on a Wednesday in September, please email us or contact us at 302-424-1890. We are grateful for your support!
Becoming a Construction Volunteer is Simple!
A Sussex County Habitat for Humanity Build Day offers both construction and non-construction volunteer opportunities. You do not need to be an expert to help on a construction site. There are many tasks that require only a willingness to learn and work with others.
What do you need to do?
1. Let us know you’re interested, by calling 302-424-1890 or emailing email@example.com. (Due to safety concerns and group size limits, no “walk-in” volunteers will be allowed on site.) You will receive a confirmation e-mail with the location and Boomer Build details.
2. Show up! Arrive by 9:00am and be ready to work the entire day. You should wear sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty. (All the tools that you’ll need will be on-site as well as plenty of drinking water.) You will be notified by e-mail if your lunch is being provided. Otherwise, do pack a lunch.
Can You Supply Food to Boomers on the Job Site?
Grocery Stores, Restaurants, Church Groups, and Businesses as well as individuals can help out by donating meals for our Volunteer Construction Crews on Build Days! Our crew size will range from 10-30 people, usually around 20 on any given day. If you are interested in keeping our Boomer Builders fed and hydrated on our Build Day, please let us know by calling 302-424-1890 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Note: Build Days go on rain or shine, but if the weather forecast looks questionable, please call SCHFH at 302-855-1153 anytime after 7am on the day of construction. The answering message will be changed to either confirm or cancel construction. To get involved at SCHFH, visit https://www.sussexcountyhabitat.org/get-involved
