Local Business Tuesday: Caffe Gelato

Caffe Gellato cropped“Since moving to Delaware in 2000, I have been truly impressed by the quality of restaurants in all parts of the state. Starting in Newark in Northern Delaware, Bill and I were among the first to discover Caffe Gelato that year when it first opened.

Even though we now live in Lewes, we always make time to get there a couple of times a year,” Kathy Sperl-Bell, Broker/Owner

I have never been a fan of chain restaurants, so a local restaurant in downtown Newark, started by Ryan German while still a student at the University of Delaware, was right up my alley. From the day it opened, we have never had anything but a great meal. I have met friends or clients there for lunch. Bill and I have been there for special dinners like birthdays or anniversaries, but also just an impromptu date night. Bill has his favorite dishes like the Frutti di Mare or the Lump Crab and Shrimp, while I tend to try something different on every visit. I particularly like the way they prepare the Citrus Seared Salmon but I often order one of the daily specials.

And then there is the Gelato! We always try to save room for one of the wonderful gelatos for dessert. Just take a peak at the full dessert menu! Caffe Gelato hours are

Monday – Friday: Lunch 11-4, Dinner 4-10
Saturday: Brunch 10-4, Dinner 4-10
Sunday: Brunch 10-3, Dinner 3-8
